We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every one of the qualifications for the position.
Please note: Beginning Friday, August 27, Academy employees and volunteers will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or undergo testing and provide negative test results before they are able to work on-site or off-site with others.
A postdoctoral research position is available to conduct research on the transcriptomics of host-microbe interactions at the California Academy of Sciences. The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Alison Gould and will work closely with research scientists within the Institute for Biodiversity Science and Sustainability (IBSS) and Steinhart Aquarium with support for laboratory and fieldwork. This is a temporary, one-year position with the possibility of renewal for up to two years, contingent on research progress. The postdoc will conduct research on an NIH-funded project investigating a bioluminescent symbiosis between a coral reef fish and luminous bacterium with the goal of characterizing genetic pathways involved in the symbiosis. The candidate will contribute to the development of genomic collections and bioinformatic resources at the California Academy of Sciences. Additionally, public outreach and youth mentorship through established programs at the Academy will be a component of the position. Applicants with expertise in genomics and transcriptomics will be given full consideration; however, preference will likely be given to candidates with experience in the following areas: host-microbe interactions, microbial ecology, and bioinformatics.
